Stable OxygenOS 12 update goes live for the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, 8T, and 9R

OnePlus is gearing up for the global launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro. And while this is something to look forward to, existing owners of the OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 8 series also have a lot to look forward to. After releasing one open beta based on Android 12 for these devices, the OEM is now releasing the OxygenOS 12 stable update for OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, 8T, and OnePlus 9R.

Build number of the stable version p.11 (for OnePlus 8 series)/p.14 (for OnePlus 9R). Beyond the core of Android 12, the first obvious change in the OxygneOS 12 update is the reimagined user interface. There are also a number of new features and quality-of-life improvements such as the Canvas AOD and OnePlus Watch Card on the shelf. However, the Android Security Patch Level (SPL) is a little out of date as OnePlus ships the February 2022 security patches with these builds.

    • Optimized desktop icons with improved textures thanks to a design inspired by brand new materials and merged lights and layers.
    • We fixed an issue that caused background apps to crash in certain scenarios.
    • Fixed an issue with lens permissions when using third party camera apps.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the screen to become unresponsive when receiving notifications.
  • Dark mode
    • Dark Mode now supports three adjustable levels, providing a more personalized and user-friendly experience.
  • Shelf
    • New additional styling options for Maps to make data content more visual and easier to read.
    • Newly added headphone control card with one-click Bluetooth headphone adjustment
    • Newly added access to the OnePlus Scout on the shelf, allowing you to search through a plethora of content on your phone, including apps, settings, media, and more.
    • Newly added OnePlus Watch Card on the shelf to view your health statistics easily.
  • Work-life balance
    • The Work Life Balance feature is now available to all users, making it easy to switch between Work and Life modes using quick settings.
    • WLB 2.0 now supports automatic work/life switching based on specific locations, Wi-Fi, and time, and provides customized app notification profiles to suit personalization.
  • Gallery
    • The gallery now allows you to switch between different layouts with a two-finger gesture, intelligently recognizing the best quality images and cropping the thumbnail based on content, making the gallery layout more enjoyable.
  • Canvas A.O.D.
    • Canvas AOD brings you a variety of new line and color styles for a more personalized lock screen with inspiring visuals.
    • Recently added several brushes and strokes, as well as support for color adjustment.
    • Optimized software algorithm and improved face detection for better detection of facial features and skin color of different figures.
  • Net
    • Fixed an issue that could not automatically connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Bluetooth
    • Fixed an issue that prevented wireless headphones from playing audio when Bluetooth was connected in certain scenarios.

While this is a stable build, the release is currently limited to existing open beta testers only. Moreover, for the OnePlus 8 series, the update for the European variant is not yet ready due to additional verification requirements. We expect the stable OTA OxygenOS 12 to be released to all users within the next week if no bugs are found.
