Prince Harry’s ‘unease’ with Meghan Markle’s ‘celeb culture’ revealed

Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle are “struggling with their ‘very different brand images’ which appear to be causing ‘tension’ between them, a royal expert has said.

talking to Express UKPauline McLaran, professor of marketing at Royal Holloway University of London, described the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s chemistry as a “power couple”, noting that the difficulties between them are “clear at key moments”.

Speaking about their lives before marriage, McLaran noted, “Individually, they had very different brand images.”

“Meghan’s brand was geared towards her as a small Hollywood celebrity associated with the Suits brand,” McLaran said, adding that “Prince Harry was part of the royal family’s brand.”

She further explained, “The blending of these different brand cultures must create tension from time to time, which certainly was when Meghan tried to be a working royal during their time in England.”

McLaran also looked into Prince Harry and Meghan’s recent appearance at the NAACP Image Awards, where she said the Duke looked “wooden” compared to the Duchess.

“Harry’s concern reflected the difference between the brands that the husband and wife couple were familiar with and that he was not yet accustomed to Hollywood celebrity culture,” McLaran concluded.
